About Us
My name is Chris and I’m an Edinburgh based photographer specialising in wedding, portrait, food, interior and panoramic photography.
I started taking photos in my early 20s after I needed a new hobby. Prior to taking up photography I was heavily into cycling and in my last year I cycled 14000 miles, but following a number of accidents, the last one which gave me broken bones in my face, I decided it was time for a change. So, I sold my bikes, bought a Canon 20D and started taking photos.
I quickly fell in love with taking photos and enrolled at college to first of all study a photography evening class, where I learnt the basics of working in a darkroom as well as learn some very basic studio techniques. I then took my studied further and ended up studying a HND and then a degree where I honed my technical skills and went further.
Just a note if you’re getting into photography, a degree is great for qualifications but you learn way more about taking photos from HNDs, trust me! So following my studies I worked as a photographer in Birmingham for a period of time and then moved to Edinburgh where I have lived since 2008.
I love Edinburgh! Edinburgh is such a beautiful city and the people in Edinburgh (people in Scotland for that matter) are generally really nice. I get to work with all kinds of clientele and I love it.
I also love my wife who’s name is Liv, I love good food and I love travelling. Liv is a chef at one of the most famous restaurants in Edinburgh and if you meet me you’ll be hard pressed to believe I was a cyclist before.
So anyway, rather than me ramble further please have a look through not just this blog but my other sites as well. There’s a lot to see not just about photography but also about other things going on my life. You can follow my news feed here and there are also pages which show information about the wedding packages I offer. I also offer a darkroom printing service but as of 2011 I’ve completely stopped shooting camera film at weddings, it’s simply too much hassle. You can also follow me on Twitter and Facebook
Hope you enjoy visiting my website.

Hi Chris,
Just stumbled upon your website this afternoon. Excellent photos so far.
It’s your Madrid experience that I find particularly interesting. Valerie and I have been there six times in the last five years; we absolutely love the place. For me, the architecture is amazing. It seems every single building has some striking or beautiful feature. Walking back through Chueca a couple of weeks ago we saw – within yards of each other – a row of stone penguins on top of one building, and lizards on another, and a fabulous art-nouveau front on another one. Favourite parts include Retiro park’s greenery and bars; feeding the birds and fish in the artifical loch there; the bullfight; the zoo; flamenco; fancy shops in the streets leading north from the Retiro; Plaza Santa Anna with Lorca’s statue on it; and the countless tapas bars and cafes. We’ll be going there again in June if all goes to plan.
We haven’t made it to Granada yet (soon though I think). However, there are other stunning places easily reachable from Madrid, each one special in its own way; Segovia, Seville, Cordoba, Salamanca but above all Toledo, with its fairy-tale castles and cathedrals.
As for photos, I’ve got a Nikon D5000 with 18-105 lens which I think is good enough for 95% of what we do. I take a netbook with me so Valerie can keep up with home life in Shetland.
Anyway, I’ll stop writing now and get on exploring your web site.
Kind regards,
Stephen Simpson

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for your comment. Madrid was certainly an interesting city. We really enjoyed visiting the Reina Sofia museum but we didn’t really have time to explore the city much further. We were slightly frustrated with Madrid and with Spain in general with everything closing early and with everything being closed on Sundays but of course that’s part of their culture.
Granada was stunningly beautiful and we simply love it there, we’d definitely go back there. I would love to visit the other places you mentioned; Segovia, Seville etc. Toledo especially looks really beautiful. As with Madrid we didn’t really have much time there, apart 4 or 5 days in total and we mainly visited Spain for both a holiday but to see our friend who was living in Granada at the time.
Nikon D5000 is a very nice camera. I started off with Nikon SLRs and they’re very nice indeed.
Many Thanks
Chris
