Moving to Edinburgh

by admin on October 31, 2008

So this month we decided to move to Edinburgh. I never really settled down in Birmingham, the people are just too unfriendly and the city is dirty and rough. Granted everyone raves about the new Bullring shopping centre but if you see the kind of people that hang around it you’ll understand my distain for the place.

Anyway, this April we came to Edinburgh for the first time for an interview at Napier University to study there and we fell in love with the city. Then a few months later, as you’ll see in other posts I started to get some photography work in Edinburgh and with Liv’s job situation at the time we decided it was time to move.

There are maybe one or two things we both miss about Birmingham, namely friends, but of course you make new friends in a city and keep in contact with old. We both see ourselves living here for a number of years.

One of the best examples of why we moved here is because of the friendly people. If you ask a question in Birmingham you’ll usually get a grunt or abuse but we went to a bar on the Royal Mile and I wanted to try out some Scottish Whisky. I asked the bar tender what we should try and he literally spent 20 minutes with us going over the different kinds, where they were brewed etc and he didn’t ask to buy us anything.

How awesome is that for customer service? Only in Taiwan have I encountered customer service as good or better than this.
