Babs Glasgow
The Ultimate Kebab?
A couple years ago I did some work for Deliveroo and one of these jobs was to pop into the original Bread Meats Bread, of which I did a review here, restaurant in Glasgow to take photos. I met the boss Ylli Dushi (who is super friendly and really cares about his food) who took me through the disbahes and taking photos there was a great experience.
A period of time after this visit, and after a few extra visits, Ylli contacted my wife Liv to see if she would like to illustrate a children’s menu for their restaurant which of course she did and it looks great (photo to be added soon). Then mid 2016 I discovered the owners of Bread Meats Bread were to open a kebab restaurant called Babs and I don’t know about you I love a good kebab! But, the food isn’t meant to be like takeaway kebabs, these are proper restaurant quality kebabs with the same love and quality that goes into Bread Meats Bread’s burgers.
So I’d wanted to go to Babs for months/almost a year but with work and family and lack of work Glasgow way we never got a chance but then a couple weeks ago Ylli contacted Liv again and asked if she would like to pop over to Babs to discuss making a children’s menu for Babs. So we popped over yesterday, I dropped Liv off at Babs and took Amelia shopping.
Just in case you’re wondering what we did, we went TV looking (buying a new tv this month), shoe shopping, went to McDonalds for Amelia then we went to a new shop called Flying Tiger in the Buchanan Galleries which is dead cheap and sells all kinds of awesome home and lifestyle things (seriously, I bought Amelia a really pretty flashing butterfly brooch for £2 and two traffic light lamps for £8 each).
So afterwards we met up with Liv again and decided to go for dinner there. I love the interior, has a real middle eastern feel and the staff are super friendly and helpful. We originally planned to go to our “safe” restaurant See Woo but thank god we went to Babs, the food is incredible. Underneath each photo I’ve left a caption saying what the dish was but everything was cooked and presented perfectly and tasted amazing. You can see the menu here and although we got our meal for free the prices are pretty awesome for what you get.
LAMB SPIEDINI £9.50. Skewered lamb grilled over coals and served on a bed of fennel & squash puree, whipped mascarpone with olives and topped with grilled shallots & leeks and a side of house made focaccia. All awesome and the focaccia is better than many Italian restaurants focaccia that I have tried before
PORK SPIEDINI £7.50. Italian style pork chop & pork belly grilled over coals and served on a bed of celeriac puree, whipped mascarpone with olives; topped with grilled shallots & leeks and a side of our focaccia. I wouldn’t normally order pork in a restaurant (we eat a lot at home) but I love this. Really delicious!
SCALLOP & BACON ‘BAB. £10. Spiced and skewered scallops & smoky bacon, grilled over charcoal and served with grilled shallots & leeks & peppers, whipped mascarpone with olives and topped with shaved heritage carrots and coriander. I love scallops and these were really big high quality scallops. Sublime
BABS BURGER. 7 ADD BACON. 8 Flat griddled BMB cheeseburger; finished on the charcoal grill & topped with aioli. Served with mixed pickles. One thing that really impressed is they were happy to change items. Our daughter won’t eat kebab but they made her a plain cheeseburger with skinny fries and she loved it.
Amelia absolutely loved her burger but she stuffed herself with skinny fries so she only had about half of it. Patty was just as good as the patties from Bread Meats Bread.
We also had some sausage meatballs and they garlic & parmesan fries which are to die for. Next time I’m ordering a pot just for myself.
So here’s my glowing review of Babs. I do the occasional restaurant review simply because I love my food and if I eat something I like enough then I love to write about it and hope other people can enjoy the same things I did.
