Carberry Tower Wedding Ceilidh
Carberry Tower Wedding Ceilidh. A couple weeks ago I visited a new venue, Carberry Tower, to photograph a ceilidh for Donna and Gordon who previously got married abroad. Donna is from New Zealand so they had their wedding over there but they wanted to have a smaller do over here as well so they chose Carberry Tower.
Carberry Tower resides just outside of Musselburgh, which itself is to the south East of Edinburgh. It’s literally just a 20 minute drive from the city but it’s surrounded entirely by countryside. I won’t go into the history of the venue but I will say a couple years ago it was bought and turned into a hotel/restaurant/wedding/function type venue and I thought it was pretty fabulous. The grounds are beautiful, Carberry Tower itself even more so and the staff I spoke to were really great, really really nice.
Winter 2016/17 in Edinburgh has been pretty miserable this year, not desperately cold but really grey, miserable and wet but on the day of the ceilidh we had really great weather so I arrived pretty early and we took some photos around the grounds. I was only booked to work with Donna and Gordon for a couple hours and the first hour was taken up with the couple’s photos, photos of the guests which we did in the upstairs lounge (which looks amazing btw) and then an hour or so of ceilidh.
On the day of the ceilidh my wife was really sick, almost to the point where I may have had to take her to hospital (she had her gallbladder removed a couple years ago which occasionally causes problems) so with permission from Donna and Gordon I took Amelia with me who absolutely loved the venue. She’s only seen one or two ceilidhs before but I think she enjoyed herself.
I’ve seen literally dozens if not hundreds of ceilidhs but I still really enjoy watching them. Sadly I don’t get to join in as I’m always photographing them. They hired the Tartan Trio Ceilidh Band and they were really good.
Donna and Gordon were a real pleasure to work with and that they had already worked with a wedding photographer in New Zealand really helped us on the day of the ceilidh. They were pretty comfortable in front of the camera but they really needed little direction which was great.
Last week I wrote about our trip to the Garden of Cosmic Speculation and this week Carberry Tower. I’ve just finished my college exams (thank god!) just in time for wedding season to really kick in so I’ll have lots of wedding updates coming up very shortly.
Here are some of my favourite photos from this Carberry Tower Wedding Ceilidh.
