I miss and love Chiang Mai so much. We visited at the end of 2018 and we didn’t really research many things to do in Chiang Mai, apart from going to see an elephant safari, but I absolutely love Chiang Mai. A few things I loved are the mentioned elephant jungle safari (very ethical, don’t worry we didn’t ride them), the night safari (which is a separate thing) was also fantastic and of course the night markets are awesome.
I really think it’s such a shame the UK doesn’t have night markets (Edinburgh has one that runs once a week) but whenever I go to the far east it’s imperative I go to the night markets for all the reasons you can see below. Chiang Mai has a daily night bazaar which is really cool with lots of shops and tonnes of really delicious and really cheap food but the most famous night market is the walking street market below. Of course it’s full of tourist related things to buy, every tourist city in the world does the same thing, and of course we bought some things but our focus is always food and this didn’t disappoint.
A couple food highlights were a stall selling lasagne which my daughter had (and loved!) but for Liv and I we loved the drinks and the meat stalls. I’ve got photos below of meat hanging from the stall and Liv chose not to get food from them as she said the food wasn’t quite cooked but there were tonnes of other stalls like this where she went back several times to get a selection of sausages and other meats, all of which were great. And of course we had the obligatory Thai milk teas and mango smoothies.
Interesting thing we found about food, UK health guidelines said we shouldn’t consume ice from street food vendors but fact is it’s so bloody hot there (remember I’m based in freezing cold Edinburgh) you absolutely appreciate and need ice to cool down. Not once in Thailand did any of us (including (at the time) our 6 year old daughter) have any stomach problems.
I think this property must be located in the coolest sounding close in the world. Literally this property is in Worlds End Close midway down the Royal Mile. I’ve written before about properties I’ve photographed along the Royal Mile and some are quite nice, some are amazing and some are absolutely awful but I thought this flat was really good. The bathroom is really tiny but I like how open this two bedroom flat is. This property is available to stay on Airbnb.
