Daddys Antique Cafe and Restaurant

Now I love South East Asian food, whether it be Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese or Thai, I love it. I thnk if I ever moved to that side of the world I honestly wouldn’t miss any of the foods in the UK. I swear everything you can eat here in the UK, you can eat over there and it’s a LOT better.

If not for Amelia we would have only eaten Thai or that side of the world food while we were on holiday but she’s a kiddie and she likes foods she’s familiar with so we decided when we got to Chiang Mai we should first night eat something Western. So we found Daddy’s Antiques Cafe and it was fabulous. Like-for-like food that we get in the UK, dishes were a little cheaper but whereas a carbonara here is just a carbonara, in Thailand carbonara in Thailand comes with truffles.

I ordered a cannelloni style dish which was delicious but Amelia’s carbonara was to die for. I had my obligatory mango smoothie and a Thai milk tea and I have no memory of what anyone else ate as I loved mine and Amelia’s dishes so much.

If you scan through the photos below you’ll see a doughnut. They have their own bakery on site and they happened to be baking doughnuts with a chocolate filling and sourdough. This was delicious and they didn’t charge us, how nice!

The grounds are beautiful and they even have a hotel next door, which from the outside, is immensely cute.

Now this is a challenge of travelling abroad, where to stay. When we booked our holiday, Liv’s mother and grandmother announced they would join us. In Bangkok this worked out fine, we stayed in a hotel of our choice for a couple nights then a hotel of their choice for the other couple nights. For Chiang Mai I wanted to book something different so I booked an Airbnb treehouse. Disaster! The treehouse looked cool, the owners were absolutely lovely and Amelia had an amazing sleep (at the time she was 6 years old and once asleep she would sleep through anything). I slept ok but got woken up by the same thing that kept Liv (wife) awake all night, clucking chickens. Our treehouse didn’t have windows and there’s a farm next door so these chickens spent the whole night talking. So next day we made our excuses and switched hotels. Awesome move!

I’m probably drifting a bit but point is Chiang Mai is hell of a lot of fun.
