Dryburgh Abbey Wedding – Part One

March 11, 2015

My last wedding of 2014 was this Dryburgh Abbey Wedding in the gorgeous Scottish Borders at the really beautiful Dryburgh Abbey. If you’ve followed this blog you’ll know one of my favourite wedding venues of all time is Kippilaw House which is only just a few miles away and I really do love this part of Scotland.

I was hired by Catherine and Tony who live in Los Angeles (cool!) a few months before their wedding and had an initial meeting with them literally a couple days before their wedding at Edinburgh airport just moments after they arrived in the country. We went over some details and just a couple days later it was time for their wedding.

The day started off with preparation photos at Dryburgh Abbey Hotel where between two photographers (myself and Liv who assisted for the day) we alternated between the guys and girls. On the day there were also two videographers, the main one behind James who is a friend and former work colleague. His company is Freedom Productions, his Facebook page can be found here and his main website can be found here. It was really good catching up and working with James, although in a completely different (and much better) environment than before. From the hotel James’ assistant jumped in my car, Liv in James’ car and we all shot over to the church which was about a 20 minute drive from the hotel.

Following the ceremony at the church we then shot back over to the hotel, captured some ambient photos and then I went into Dryburgh Abbey itself with the couple for some couple’s shots. Dryburgh Abbey itself is absolutely gorgeous. I really love old abbeys and castles having lived in the country up until my very late teens. When I lived in Herefordshire we lived just a couple miles from Goodrich Castle which during the summer my brother/friends and I would scale the walls when the place was closed. Happy memories.

So here’s the first part of this wedding at Dryburgh Abbey. I’ll post some more photos in a few days time as we took a record number of photos on the day and there are a lot of really great photos to share
