Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014

London Airbnb photographer

Just recently I spent a few hours walking around the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a Nikon 300mm 2.8 lens and captured some portraits which I thought was really cool and I’ve had some really interesting feedback from some people about those photos. So I thought it would be cool to pop back to the Fringe for another couple hour walk around but this time with more normal lenses to capture photographs from a different perspective.

As I think I mentioned in the other blog post about the Fringe this year, the Fringe this year was absolutely mental based on the sheer number of people around. Even in the just 6 years I’ve been living in Edinburgh I’ve seen the crowds multiply in size but it’s also great to see all of the different performers throughout the mile.

Every year the Fringe Festival has some of the same performers but each time, which is quite rare nowadays, that I walk around Old Town I see completely different acts. The first one below was for a Taiwanese dancing act which was quite cool. There was a lady from Taiwan handing out flyers for their show and when I told her I’ve been to Taiwan a few times she was like “Oh my god! So cool!”, so that was nice.

There were the traditional lying down on the ground acts which always make me laugh and plenty of people dressed in some really awesome outfits.

Lastly when i was walking back up the Royal Mile to go back to the car there were people exiting St Giles Cathedral who had been attending a meeting/sermon/show with the Lord Provost so we were asked to wait by the police. I had Amelia with me at the time and she made the police lady who was stood in front of us laugh when Millie handed her a random flyer with a big smile on her face and a hiya.

The last several years I’ve really kind of missed the Fringe due to various reasons but this year, partly because of weddings I’ve had in town, I’ve had a chance to spend a little more time around the Fringe and it’s been great. Next year depending on childcare/work/family situation I’m really going to try to see some shows.
