Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival Carnival 2017

Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival Carnival 2017. A couple years ago my family and I checked out the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival Carnival that took place on Princes Street but 2016 for whatever reason I didn’t get a chance to see. Now I live practically in the middle of Edinburgh city centre there’s no excuses to not check out any events.

The 2016 Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival Carnival was really cool but in typical Scottish weather fashion the weather for the parade was great but it absolutely poured it down at the end so we (my wife, daughter and I) weren’t able to check out any of the events taking place in Princes Street Gardens. This year however my wife and daughter decided to go out early Sunday afternoon to meet a friend so I popped over to Princes Street again and this time we had the most fabulous warm sunny weather.

This year I stood in a fairly similar spot for the carnival but it seemed to go in a different direction. As usual it started on the mound but then it cut back along Princes Street two thirds of the way then cut back on itself again, so I had to run down Princes Street to get a good spot for taking photos and thankfully I managed.

So what is the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival Carnival? Every year Edinburgh hosts multiple festivals, whether it be the Fringe Festival, a science festival, children’s festival, a boat festival, a food festival, a marathon festival, triathlon or even Hogmanay. There’s almost always something going on in Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a pretty awesome city to live in if you want to see and experience all kinds of events and cultures. The Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival takes part mid July and is as the name suggests a celebration of jazz and blues.

Personally I like all kinds of blues, hate modern jazz but my main interest is the carnival and the celebrations that go on in Princes Street Gardens. The carnival itself took one hour to go down Princes Street then afterwards everyone went to Prince Street Gardens where bands were playing on the Ross bandstand and all around the Ross Fountain. There was a Chinese theatre theatre there, a teepee for kids and a stall for face painting. There’s also lots of food around and huge crowds of people really enjoying themselves.

Here are some photos that I took from this really cool event.
