Food Photography Glasgow

Food photography Glasgow. Just a couple weeks ago I was hired to photograph some food for a food manufacturing company based in Glasgow. Aldomak make traditional handmade Scottish confectionary, including products like macaroons, tablets and fudge as well as wafers, ice cream cones and more.

I’ve photographed quite a lot of food over the last few years and I really do enjoy photographing food. This was a little different in that i was photographing individual products rather than layouts of cooked food but it was great fun to get back into the studio style of photography. Ten years ago when I got into photography and studied I did a lot of studio style photography, whether it be products or portraits or whatever and it’s cool working like this.

Another cool thing is I get to play around with equipment I don’t own. While I fully know how to use studio lighting there’s just no point in me owning traditional studio lighting. When I do need lights I rent them from Calumet who have the lovely Profoto B1 and B2 lights in stock. Rental on these is a little more expensive than cheaper brands like Bowens but two B1 heads and all the gubbins I needed worked out at around £100.

A pair of B1 heads from Calumet will cost you in the region of £2700 which, in perfect queen’s English, is fucking expensive. But they’re the best so that’s why I use them when I need studio lights. I am gently trying to let Liv (wifey) let me buy a set of B2 portable heads. They would do absolute wonders for my outdoors photography (just need to hire a sherpa to carry them).

So here are some photos that I took. Aldomak asked me to take photos of their products in commercial buckets which I decided not to share but the setup worked perfectly on the day and everyone was really pleased with the photos. Incidentally I did try a couple of their products. Tablets and fudge are not really my thing but they tasted as good as any tablets/fudge etc I’ve tried in the past.
