So it’s been a good couple weeks since I last updated this website and you may think I’m really quiet but in fact I’m busier than ever. I photographed a few weddings in July and apart from the car work I do I expected August to be really quiet. Turns out I received emails from two extremely popular hotel booking websites (booking.com being one of them, the other I’ll talk about in the near future)) asking if I’d be interested in working with them.
So what was originally going to be a quiet August with a few trips to the Fringe Festival and possibly a BBQ at home with some friends (etc) turned into lots of hotel shoots.
That’s not to say we didn’t check out the Fringe. We left it until a few days after the Fringe started until we checked it out one Sunday when Amelia, Liv and myself did a lap of the city centre (through the meadows and old town, into new town and across George Street). I have to say apart from the pop up bars on George Street where we had a really lovely beer and saw a prat walking on the street (more below) I was really unimpressed. The street performances were really boring and really unimpressive.
I did like the pop up bars on George Street though. It was a bit difficult getting somewhere to sit and one cheeky tourist tried to push the queue to get a seat (gave her a quick “bugger off that’s mine!”) but I did laugh at the big media gaggle standing outside the Assembly Rooms, expecting a celebrity to come out, when it was only Alex Salmond, who I’m most definitely not a fan of.
So in summary the Fringe was terrible, I’m busy photographing hotels, even busier setting up my new business. I start university next week (can’t wait and no it’s not to studying photography(!)) and I’ve got a dozen hotels to photograph in a month.
But back to this article, even though I purposely missed the Fringe I did check out the fireworks display which marks the end of the Fringe and Military Tattoo season. In previous years I’ve climbed the Salisbury Crags, gone up Blackford Hill in front of the Royal Observatory and also Calton Hill but it turns up my front doorstep is probably the best place to watch it. Literally when you walk out my front door and look left you have full view of Edinburgh Castle but I promised Amelia we would go to the meadows to watch it and to let her have a big run around. I took a couple photos but then decided I couldn’t be bothered so recorded a few videos instead. I’ve included two stills, a couple screen captures and the grand finale fireworks display from the Fringe Festival Fireworks 2017 show.

Joyful Original
My big focus right now is getting Joyful Original up and running. Liv and I have decided to start our own design company. I have ten years of photography and website building experience and she has five plus years of design and illustrating. We’ve decided with changing markets it’s time for us to focus our energies together and start Joyful Original. We’re really busy compiling our portfolios and I’m super busy building our website but by end of September it should be live and I’ll have a lot more to share.
