Grand Palace Bangkok

On our second full day in Thailand December 2018 we went to the Grand Palace and it was a really cool experience. Cool as in the place looks cool/great but not so cool weather wise. We left Edinburgh 2 days before and it was just 2C and then we arrive in the evening the next day and it’s 35C. The Grand Palace inside must have been at least 40C. Even my mother-in-law and her mother, who live in Taiwan, were complaining about the heat so Amelia and I had to buy portable fans to keep ourselves cool.

So how do I write this. We were obviously tourists ourselves but going to the Grand Palace reminded me exactly why tourists piss me off. Edinburgh is all about tourism and I do a lot of weddings in the centre of Edinburgh. The Royal Mile and it’s surrounding area is usually fine but doing weddings at Edinburgh Castle drives me nuts as it’s absolutely rammed with tourists getting in the way.

At one point at the Grand Palace I was taking some photos of something and group of Chinese tourists came storming into my area and asked me to move out the way. Fuck you, I was there first, wait your turn! I have to put up with their shit getting in the way in Edinburgh but I paid the same amount to go to the Grand Palace as they did and I was there first, so learn to wait!

The rest of the visit was great again apart from the shouting Chinese tourists. Now don’t think I’m being racist, I’m not, I’m married to someone from Taiwan and her grandparents are Chinese but going on holiday and being surrounded by SHOUTING Chinese tourists trying to barge their way through, really annoying!

Do go to the Grand Palace if you get a chance though but go really early. It’s absolutely beautiful inside.
