It’s really amazing how time flies but Amelia as of today is exactly six months old. It’s a cliche but it really does feel like she was born just yesterday but between the last post I wrote about Amelia and now we’ve seen absolutely huge changes in her.
The last time I wrote I mentioned she had just started to track us, was starting to play with her toys and was always smiling and laughing. The smiling and laughing haven’t changed, she’s still exactly the same happy baby but everything else about her has completely changed. She’s gone from being a funny little baby to a really active baby. She wants to hold absolutely everything and put everything in her mouth. She’s always talking (often loudly) in baby language, she’s very alert and just great fun. Importantly she’s now able to entertain herself with her toys for decent amounts of time and putting her to sleep at night is really easy nowadays. 9.10pm every day, on the dot, no later or earlier, we put her in her cot with minimal cuddling before, wrap her up in Liv’s dressing gown, cover with a blanket and she’s out until 7-7.30am. She might wake up once in the night but that’s only because she’s spat her dummy out.
She’s also started eating (liquified) solid foods. Amelia is perhaps a really fortunate baby as her mummy is an incredible chef so Liv has started preparing solid foods for Amelia to eat. We first tried her with butternut squash which for the first couple of feeds she didn’t really know what to do with it. She probably thought the spoon was a toy but now she literally tries to the grab the spoon off us. She absolutely loves butternut squash. She also loves sweet potato and next we’re going to try carrots. We also tried her with a banana and avocado mix which to us is tasty but it made her really gassy so that’s off the menu for a while.
Liv and I also thought it would be funny to try a couple different baby foods you can buy at supermarkets. We won’t mention the names of the brands but the one or two baby foods we did try were absolutely disgusting. With that I think Liv will probably make everything Amelia will eat for the foreseeable future.
She’s also been a wee bit difficult at times. Literally as soon as she hit four months old she started teething and just recently, along with her six month growth spurt, she’s been pretty hard work but each time she goes through a growth spurt she completely changes and becomes ten times more fun than before.
She can also now sit up on her own, her cradle cap has finally disappeared and her hair is starting to grow properly and she’s showing the first signs of crawling (well, she can turn herself around 180 degrees but doesn’t understand yet crawling backwards of forwards.
Another thing and probably the best thing that has happened for everyone is Amelia starting nursery. I’m absolutely crazy busy with my photography work and with Liv going back to college, Amelia started at the Waterfront Nursery which sits alongside Telford College in the Granton area of Edinburgh. I have no idea if it’s the same in England but in Scotland if one is a student then the local council will pay almost the full nursery fees. Since Amelia started nursery she has again changed so much. She loves the attention the nannies give her, she’s playing with the other babies and loves playing with the literally dozens of toys they have there.
The staff at Waterfront Nursery are absolutely lovely and were even kind enough to let me pop in one afternoon and take photos of Amelia alone in one of the baby rooms. This was the first time either Liv or I saw Amelia playing in a jumperoo and it was quite literally the cutest thing either of us had seen. She would literally start jumping up and down on her own, so so cute!
So how have our lives been changed in the last six months?! Immensely, completely! With work, college and bringing up Amelia we’ve been horrendously busy but nursery has been our total godsend. We’re now able to have solid amounts of time where we can crack on with work and while it still feels like we have nowhere enough time to do everything things are a million times easy now.
Finally at the end of this really long blog post there are loads of new photos of Amelia taken between the ages of 3 and 6 months. The nursery photos were taken just a few days before she turned 6 months, the sitting and crawling photos with her wearing the strawberry sleep suit about 5.5 months and the others 3-4 months.
I must point out feeding time is absolutely hilarious. It’s probably my favourite thing to do right now. She constantly talks during feeding and we usually end up with food everywhere (well, all over her face, sometimes on her clothes and often her high chair) but it’s absolutely hilarious.

Amelia had the flu for a couple days recently. Lots of snotty noses!
