At the end of February I shot a wedding for Alison and Barry which I had been super excited about. First of all Alison and Barry are an absolutely lovely couple, really funny and really charming. Secondly they had hired “The Red Bus” which I was asked if I wanted to go on, super cool! Lastly they had their reception at EH15 restaurant at Jewel and Esk College. More about that below.
Alison and Barry chose the City of Edinburgh suite which is the best suite by far at Lothian Chambers. In total there were around 40 guests attending this wedding so it was a really nice size party to work with but regardless of whether the wedding party is just a bride and groom or 50 plus people, the City of Edinburgh suite is the best by far. It’s way more beautiful than the other suites and importantly for myself has a lot of light and space for me to move around.
Unbeknown to the wedding party, Alison and Barry hired “The Red Bus”, a double decker old fashioned red bus which you can hire for weddings, parties, etc. The bus arrived during the ceremony so I think everyone was a bit shocked to discover this was their bus. After the wedding we took some group shots outside the Chambers and then Alison, Barry and myself headed off away from the party for around 30 minutes to take some more personal shots.
The ride on the bus was fantastic, really good fun. It was a little difficult to take photos on the move due to the bus vibrating but whenever we pulled up we took a few opportunist photos. Once we arrived at the reception we took some more staged photos.
As mentioned above the reception was at EH15 restaurant which is at Jewel and Esk College. Before I met the couple I knew nothing about this restaurant but it’s a teaching restaurant. Apart from the head chef the chefs are all students and I believe the restaurant is usually booked two weeks in advance.
Naturally I didn’t eat any of the main course food but I tried some canapes and they were excellent. I’ve found from restaurants/weddings if the canapes are poor, then the rest of the food will be. At some point we definitely hope to have a proper meal here.
So anyway, enough rambling, here are my favourite photos from this wedding. In total I took around 200 photos so whittling down the number of photos for this blog post was quite hard.
Hope you enjoy…
