Meadows Festival Edinburgh 2017
Meadows Festival Edinburgh 2017. Edinburgh loves it’s festivals. We have a science festival, a book festival, children’s festival, there’s hogmanay, the Fringe Festival, a Union Canal festival and all kinds of other festivals. There are literally dozens of festival type things going on in Edinburgh every year as well as many sporting events including a full and half marathon and there’s even a Moon Walk there, but at the beginning of June Edinburgh hosts the Meadows Festivals.
The Meadows if you’re not quite aware of what and where it is, is a park that resides to the south of the city centre. It is a really popular area due to it’s proximity to the city and almost daily people take part in all kinds of activities including tennis, cross fit and exercise classes, there’s a croquet club as well as two excellent playgrounds for children. People go there for lunch from all around the area and it’s simply a really great area to hang out. There has sadly been some crime there in recent years at night but as long as you’re vigilant and don’t hang out too early or too late you should be fine.
But back to the Meadows Festival itself, we’ve visited it a couple times before but now we live in Marchmont and we’re literally just a two minute walk away, we checked it out on the first day and it was cool. There’s a large fairground area setup for kids (my daughter loved it), all kinds of stalls selling all kinds of things from vintage items (lots of junk), to jewellery, to crafts, to pottery, to record albums and there’s also lots of food available.
We had a haggis, chorizo and pepperoni pizza which you can see in the last photo, two burgers (one was lamb and the other pork and chorizo, both absolutely delicious) and we also had a couple hotdogs between the three of us. I don’t even want to think about how much we spent (rides were on average £2.50 each and Millie went on a LOT of rides), we bought food, bought some items for our home but hey it’s only once a year and we did enjoy it.
I might pop over again Sunday to take some more photos and possibly meet some friends if they fancy coming into town but I’m hoping to see more diverse food like in previous years. Granted we didn’t make it around the whole site but last year there we ate things like jerk chicken and this year I was keen to have a couple beers (previous years I had to drive into town, now we live there), but I didn’t see much or any beer around.
But do check it out the Meadows Festival if you’re in Edinburgh. It’s a pretty cool thing to see and shows what a great city Edinburgh is.

Liv is a big chicken when it comes to the more “active’ fairground rides and she was so scared on this. Poor her!

Haggis, chorizo and pepperoni pizza. The base wasn’t so good but the toppings were delicious. I hated haggis when I moved to Edinburgh almost a decade ago but LOVE it nowadays.
