One of the things I was really desperate to go to when I went to Taiwan for the second time was a restaurant called Modern Toilet. This restaurant opened not long before I visited Taiwan for the first time but we didn’t know about it nor is it obviously easy to find. Modern Toilet has a fairly small entrance in a side street off a non main street. In Taipei and in Chinese, this is impossible for me to find and Liv had to ask local shopkeepers where to go.
The theme of this restaurant is toilets. You sit on toilets, you eat out of a toilet and you drink out of hospital style pee pots. Dishes come with a swirly dog poop lid and you can buy an assortment of toilet themed items, ranging from the toilets you eat out of to key chains and everything in between. One thing to note is they let us take our drink cannisters home free of charge.
So anyway, I ordered a curry, Liv ordered a seafood hotpot, we ordered rice and we both had milk teas. The drinks were ok but my curry was fairly poor. It came to the table piping hot but it wasn’t spicy at all and there was very little of it. I expected to have a fairly decent sized bowl of curry but I had about (this might sound strange) a 1cm deep dish of curry. Very poor.
Liv’s seafood hotpot was ok but in Taipei you can eat so much better and so much cheaper elsewhere. Just as Liv did in her review I’d give this restaurant 5 out of 5 stars for style but for the food I would give it a 2. Go there for a drink and to take some photos but go elsewhere to eat.
