At this point in my Edinburgh career I think I’ve been into the vast majority of serviced apartments in Edinburgh for one reason or another. One of the first I went into was the Royal Garden Apartments around 10 years ago and I remember it being really dated but in a fantastic location.
Royal Garden Apartments are located at the West end of Queen Street, next to York Place, and just two streets away from Princes Street. It’s a very cool building in a cool location. So Sonder was founded in 2012 and they offer AirBNB-style holiday apartments. They originate from Canada but with rapid expansion and extra funding they have branched out into the UK. So far their UK based properties have been based in London but the Royal Garden Apartments is their first property in Edinburgh.
I’ve paid two visits to the new Sonder apartments, one in November and one just this week. The build has gone through different phases so I believe the November visit was for a penultimate phase and indeed a lot of the site was still being decorated but this time the building is finished apart from one or two final touches that are being done this week.
My task was to capture multiple angles of the different rooms, capture details at certain angles, shoot with absolutely no lights on and shoot wide angle but not too wide angle. Really simple.
And that’s it for today’s shoot. This first shoot focuses more on the upper apartments which are on the south side of the building and they’re quite different from the lower floor apartments, so I’ve split them into two parts (second part to come).
