Trainspotting 2
Long before I moved to Edinburgh and while in my teens one of my favourite films was Trainspotting. It was shocking (drugs), hilarous (the scene with Begby throwing a pint over his shoulder in a bar is one of the funniest scenes ever) and it was recorded in the UK so myself and all of my friends loved it.
I’ve always been a big fan of Danny Boyle’s films and I’m always excited to see his new movies but just like all my friends I’ve been waiting 20 years for a Trainspotting 2. So yesterday I was looking on the North Edinburgh Community News page on Facebook (here) and it turns out Danny Boyle was recording Trainspotting 2 in Muirhouse which is a 2 minute walk from my home. Liv and I were working at home and we immediately dropped everything, jumped in the car (I had to go to the post office first), and sprinted over to Muirhouse Shopping Centre where they were filming a scene with Ewen Bremner who played Spud in the first film. In the evening I read the author of Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh, is from Muirhouse, so they brought the filming back to where it all started.
I think it’s pretty awesome that the author of one of my favourite stories is local and Muirhouse being the total and utter shit hole that it is, is perfect for recording scenes for Trainspotting 2. So here is a load of photos I took of the filming of Trainspotting 2. Apparently, they were filming on Ferry Road a couple of days ago and I’m trying to find out where they will be next but how cool that they are recording practically on my doorstep. If I find out where they are going to be next I’ll try to get more photos and update them here.
As a note, Ewen Bremner was kind enough to sign an autograph for my wife which absolutely made her day.
