I have to make a confession. I’m completely in love. Not with my wife, daughter or anything like that, I’m completely in love with Thailand. Christmas and New Year 2018 we decided to use our relatively quiet time to take a holiday and go to Thailand for just under three weeks and what an awesome experience.

Thailand is one of those countries that everyone says “you must go” and now I’ve been I can really see why. The weather is incredible, the people are really nice, shopping is cheap, food even cheaper and there’s just so much to see and do literally all day and most of the night. One of my very favourite things to do when I travel to East Asia (I’ve been to Taiwan twice, China once and Bali once) is visit the night markets which I think are truly awesome. Within these night markets you can buy all kinds of things from shoes to makeup to decorations to drones to furniture to whatever you can think of. For example, the second day we were in Bangkok, and I’ll blog about this soon, we went to Chatuchak Weekend Market where there are something like 15000 stalls where you can buy all of these things and while you’re walking around you can have a fruit smoothie and when you get tired you can have a massage for a couple quid. How awesome.

And the fruit I mentioned, wow, life changing. I generally dislike most fruit in the UK as it’s very often sour (a result of being grown in a cold environment) but fruit grown in a tropical environment is just amazing. Take for example mango, mango in the UK is sour and hard. Mango in Thailand is like sweet butter; it has the texture of butter but is sweet and just delicious. Combine this with sticky rice and some coconut milk and wow, heaven.

But back to the photos in this article, the night before we flew back to the UK we visited Chang Chui Plane Night Market which, you might have guessed from the name, has a plane. A really giant old bomber plane which actually has a restaurant inside. Chang Chui is full of locally crafted products and there are multiple exhibitions made up of items people have collected. I’m not a particularly big fan of conceptual art and most UK people’s definitions of contemporary art can quite frankly be shoved up their bums but the collections and art at Chang Chui are just cool. Just have a look at the bathroom which I’ll note below, I actually took photos in a public bathroom.

Then of course there’s the food. There was one restaurant called Insects in the Backyard that sells edible insects inside their food (and the food looks absolutely beautiful btw) and we would have loved to dine there but taking a 6 year old to an insect based restaurant isn’t going to happen. So we had an all you can eat Japanese buffet made up of sushi, sashimi, hotpot etc. Price wise it was just over £10 each and all you can eat and limitless drinks. Bingo. After dinner we had ice cream and the most beautiful drinks from one stall (mine was literally milk and sugar with tapioca balls and lots of ice) while Liv had something else (I can’t remember but most likely it was a Thai Tea/Coconut Smoothie).

A shopping highlight (amongst many) was the bags/shoes and accessories being sold by Nine Shop 99 (website here, instagram here. They hand paint all of their clothes and the gentleman who served us had the most awesome man’s shoe but sadly not my size. But, their products are fabulous.

I can literally write thousands of words just about Chang Chui Plane Night Market alone but I’ve got tonnes of other photos to share from our adventures over the next few weeks (as well as some work of course).
